The Last King of Rome

It should be said that the historical records of Rome were destroyed during one of the city's many 'sackings', which probably occurred in or around 390 BC. Consequently there is some doubt about whether any of the seven Kings of Rome – starting with Romulus in about 753 BC, and ending with Tarquin the Proud – ever actually existed, and they are all, individually and collectively, generally described as 'legendary'. Although it's probably fair to say that there's more reason to believe that Tarquin was a real person than there is for Romulus.
